What is it?
A Display Energy Certificate or DEC shows a buildings energy performance rating over the last 12 months. The rating is an indication of the buildings CO2 emissions over the previous year. The DEC produced for a large building will show ratings for the previous two years. The DEC should be displayed in a place that is clearly visible to members of the public and should be no smaller than A3 size.
The DEC will be produced along with an advisory report which must be kept by the owner. The advisory report will highlight recommendations to improve the energy performance of the building.
Are You Compliant?
A DEC and advisory report are required for buildings with a total useful floor area over 250m2 that are occupied in whole or part by public authorities and frequently visited by the public.
The DEC must be displayed in a prominent position clearly visible to the public.
The DEC is valid for 12 months.
Further information can be found on the Government's website below:
What is involved?
Our approved energy assessor will visit the building and carry out a visual survey. In order to produce the DEC the assessor will require energy meter readings for each fuel source, i.e. gas, electric etc.
Following the visit the assessor will produce the DEC and advisory report. These will be lodged with the national register maintained by Landmark. A copy of the certificate and advisory report will then be issued to the building owner for display.
